Our current governor changed the bylaws three years ago to give this organization the right to take over so called “low performing schools”. This has caused great chaos in Memphis because this organization can really take over any school on the priority list whether they are showing improvements or not. These are some of the same individuals that were a part of the New Orleans school charter issues. Many of the schools that they have taken over are not showing improvements at all. When they come in to take over a school all teachers are fired. Of course, they tell you that you can apply with them; however, you will lose your seniority and time from that you had accumulated previously. I think that closing good neighborhood schools, just to open not so great charter schools is really sad. It seems like our elected officials are okay with this because they have passed the laws for organization like ASD to exist. Organizations like this are not about education, they are about the money you can make in education. I hope that the parents in Nashville stand up and say no.
