A Hippocratic Oath for Teaching?

Here California 7th grade teacher, Dave Ellison, calls for re-claiming the ethical imperative that is at the heart of teaching: Do what is in the best interest of children, and never do harm.

And yes, moral courage will be required, and yes, talking with parents about how this testing business is affecting their children will be the key.

Remember--NCLB does not require parents to consent to having their students tested. If parents were to just say NO to this thinly-disguised effort to privatize public education on the backs of their children, the whole enterprise would collapse like a house of cards.

  1. Just the same as if people would realize that vouchers wouldn't work for them because no one can make a private school take your kid.
