Ed Reporter Startled by 5-Year Old Facts

This from the Hickory Daily Record:

NEWTON - Only a handful of parents to elementary school-aged children attended a meeting Tuesday night that could have significantly improved their children’s testing scores.

The meeting at Balls Creek Elementary School was designed to educate all parents about the testing children undergo in school, particularly third-, fourth- and fifth-grade students.

One startling fact that surfaced during the meeting is that all students are expected to be at 100 percent proficiency in reading and math by 2014.

Another surprising statistic: there can be multiple subgroups, and children can be put into more than one. If one student doesn’t meet proficiency, and is in more than one subgroup, then every subgroup the student is in fails.

If you really want to get a parent turnout, scribble some posters and stick them up around the supermarkets:
COME TO PARENT MEETING TO END SCHOOL TESTING MADNESS!
