Randi Wins Best Non-Supportive Acting Role as Teacher Unionist President

Thanks, Jack Gerson, for handing out this distinguished award.  See Randi tsk, see Randi cluck, see Randi shocked!  Really.

Weingarten has been in on every sleazy corporate-sponsored deal crafted during the past 3 years to eviscerate the teaching profession and due process, and now she is shocked Obama and Duncan are doing the same.

Her invited guest this week?  Bill Gates, who had this to say last year at a TED talk where he discussed malaria, AIDS, pneumonia, and teachers:

How does that [KIPP school] compare to a normal school? Well, in a normal school teachers aren't told how good they are. The data isn't gathered. In the teacher's contract, it will limit the number of times the principal can come into the classroom -- sometimes to once per year. And they need advanced notice to do that. So imagine running a factory where you've got these workers, some of them just making crap and the management is told, "Hey, you can only come down here once a year, but you need to let us know, because we might actually fool you, and try and do a good job in that one brief moment."

  1. You know, that's nonsense. In NYC, a principal can walk in at any time, without any notice whatsoever. Bill also discussed the amazing KIPP teachers who ran around and didn't let kids sleep in class, things most of us do every day.

He is an ignorant galoot, and his appearance at the convention is shameful. On Weingarten, I couldn't agree more. Her massive givebacks in 2005 for a compensation increase that didn't even meet cost of living were a disgrace.
