"Schools search for money for technology upgrades," (June 5) tells us that the new national tests based on the national standards are going to cost a lot of money, far more than we realized.
There is no evidence that the new standards and tests will work, and the money is badly needed elsewhere. Also, if the new standards and tests fail to produce results, our children will suffer, but the testing and computer companies will make substantial profits regardless.
We can also be sure that as soon as the new system is in place, marketing will begin to sell us a new, improved system: National Test Battery 2.0.
