The TN Taliban Strikes Again, Hoping to Make Bible Official Book

This legislative feat tops the agenda, as the state's citizens get poorer and dumber.  Last month, the Tennessee Legislature had another important item on the To Do list:
The move to make the Bible the state's official book comes a month after Tennessee lawmakers approved a measure to make the Barrett M82 sniper rifle the official state rifle.

TN's Win-Win for Corporate Education Is a Lose-Lose for Children

The Commercial Appeal has a story this morning about Tennessee's new limited school voucher law just passed by the Tennessee Taliban in Nashville last week.  My comments were posted this morning:

Parents in Tennessee are not in favor of a voucher system, and this miseducative and child-hostile law only serves the needs of ALEC and Governor Haslam's crew, whose principal goal is to create a corporate welfare state at the expense of citizens. This limited bad idea is a way to get to a larger bad idea, or to get the camel's nose under the tent to push in another form of privatization of public services, along with the profiteering and corruption that go with it.

In order to get about half of the per-pupil allotment that special education kids now receive in public schools, parents must give up their rights to have input or to demand reviews of how their children's educational needs are being served in the existing private segregated "schools" and the ones that are sure spring up as a result of the new law.

This ideologically driven legislation serves to make sure that the road to exclusion is further cleared of obstructions and that the charter industry will not have to contend with parents demanding special educational services for their children. It's a win-win for corporate education reform.

Tennessee Taliban Challenges Rights of UT Students to Discuss Sex

From Huffington Post:

Tennessee lawmakers advanced legislation this week officially condemning a group of students for holding a "Sex Week" event on campus.
A resolution with 29 co-sponsors currently moving through the Tennessee House of Representatives will do nothing to stop "Sex Week" from taking place at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. Instead, it declares the event "an outrageous misuse of student fees and grant monies," and says that it "fits nowhere within the mission" of the university, "nor should it ever."
The bill originally condemned the school's administration, which is not involved in the event. An amendment changed it to focus on "the organizers," which is to say, a group of students. The resolution passed a committee vote Wednesday and is scheduled for a full House vote next week.
"If those people who organize this thing want to have it, hey, let them get off campus," state Rep. Richard Floyd (R-Chattanooga), the primary sponsor of the resolution, told the Chattanooga Times Free Press. "They can go out there in a field full of sheep if they want to and have all the Sex Week they want." . . .
