WHo shold be the next US secretary of education?

The Network for Public Education is conducting a survey asking  who should be the next US secretary of education:

We can nominate three people. I nominated Susan Ohanian, Aflie Kohn and Peggy Robertson.

  1. If I were picking someone who mirrored the values and priorities of Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, I would pick Arne Duncan or Margaret Spellings. But since the Secretary is a functionary who takes his marching orders from the oligarchs, almost anyone would do--even Diane Ravitch.

Isn't Trump eliminating the Department of Education? I would nominate Chris Christie. He has a wonderful rapport with teachers. If he does not snag the Attorney General job, he is soon to be out of work. My second choice would be Michael Bloomberg. He has a solid record of being on the corporate reform side of every education issue in his three term tenure. The third tier candidates would be Michelle Rhee and Cambell Brown as co-secretaries. Their contributions to teaching and learning are well known to all.
