Karen Lewis speaking at the City Club of Chicago on November 20:
This space explores issues in public education policy, and it advocates for a commitment to and a re-examination of the democratic purposes of schools. If there is some urgency in the message, it is due to the current reform efforts that are based on a radical re-invention of education, now spearheaded by a psychometric blitzkrieg of "metastasizing testing" aimed at dismantling a public education system that took almost 200 years to build. Karen Lewis is great, I wish she could have a one-on-one with Obama and educate him about the toxicity of RTTT, charter schools and school privatization. She's got grit, guts and intelligence and is not afraid to tell the truth about school deform. The NEA and AFT could learn a lot about Karen Lewis's no nonsense approach.
ReplyDeleteI think it's time to replace Dennis Van Roekel and Randi Weingarten! Time to start the fight with research on our side.
