This space explores issues in public education policy, and it advocates for a commitment to and a re-examination of the democratic purposes of schools. If there is some urgency in the message, it is due to the current reform efforts that are based on a radical re-invention of education, now spearheaded by a psychometric blitzkrieg of "metastasizing testing" aimed at dismantling a public education system that took almost 200 years to build. I have been following the strike hourly almost as we are in a non union state and hope beyond hope that Chicago will be the start of the dismantling around vam/ teacher evals. The trickling of news is that the union is settling on using test scores just at a smaller percentage. Please, is this true? What can be done as you rightly say, any percentage is wrong since it is no better than dart throwing and a whole lot more harmful.
