For Chicago Parents, 1 School Library Won with 159 to Go

The Daley Dictatorship of public schools in Chicago resulted in the replacement, under the directorship of Vallas and then Duncan, of 60 public schools with over a hundred cheap apartheid corporate charters schools without libraries or other services that are offered regularly as a part of public education. Now 160 Chicago schools are without libraries.  But that will be 159 very soon now.

When Whittier Elementary School saw their plans for a school library threatened by Daley's wrecking ball, they took action with a sit-in to protect the property from destruction.  These parents have won, and their victory must inspire other communities to act to restore the crucial learning resources that the corporate goon squads have targeted as cost-saving measures in communities that corporate America has written off.
