Right and Righteous Higher Ed Commission

Declaring herself and her higher ed commission "right and righteous to ask questions," Secretary Spellings will no doubt use that righteousness to push for federal control of the American university system in order to make sure that it is on call to serve corporate R&D needs.

So far, the two biggest lead balloons to be pushed out the Commission's flight hangar: 1) standardized testing in college, and 2) a federalalized accreditation system for colleges.

Whatever these bold and righteous thinkers finally come up with in August, we can be pretty sure of two things: 1) the poor and the brown will continue to be used as the shameless excuse for more control measures, and 2) the final report will be as DOA as the rest of the Bush domestic agenda. My suggestion to the "right and the righteous": shut up and go home.
